Don’t just sit at home! There are plenty of great things to do around New York City this weekend.

Here’s a look at some of the best events happening around town between Dec. 27-29.

Friday, Jan. 17: Get Balkan!

STEAM for Kids: Tinkerlab: Tinkerlab is designed for children 6-12 years old to explore and discover the wonders of STEAM in a fun and interactive way. Sessions will focus on various methods for children to engage in hands-on activities that encourage creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking. Van Cortlandt Library, 3882 Cannon Pl., Bronx. 3 – 4:30 p.m. Free.

39th Zlatne Uste Golden Festival: At NYC’s favorite Balkan bash, a celebration of community through music, dancing, and art, you can: Find music for your ears and feet inspired by Balkan traditions and well beyond, including Klezmer, Hungarian, Scandinavian, Ukrainian, and more! Astoria World Manor, 25-22 Astoria Blvd., Queens. 7 p.m. – 12:30 a.m. $30; free for children.

Saturday, Jan. 18: Queens is lit!

Watson Adventures’ Grand Central Scramble Scavenger Hunt For Families: Kids and adults work together to uncover the secrets of this amazing train station. To win, you’ll have to go nuts in the Whispering Gallery, learn a secret about the stars in the “sky”, find TV celebs in the food court, stand on fish under an upside-down tree in the Grand Central Market, and learn the arrival time of a “ghost” train. Grand Central Terminal, 89 E 42nd St., Manhattan. 10:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. $17.50-$21.50.

Lektrik: A Festival of Lights: This festival of lights, presented by the acclaimed Lektrik, is set to be larger and more awe-inspiring than ever. With over 40 stunning lamp scenes, Lektrik will transform Queens Botanical Garden into an immersive wonderland. Queens Botanical Garden, 43-50 Main St., Queens. 5 – 10:30 p.m. $21.90-$37.90.

Sunday, Jan. 19: Improv!

Theatresports: Family Improv: Freestyle Rep returns to Brooklyn for the 15th year with their legendary brand of spontaneous, comedic theater in “Theatresports” – NYC’s only interactive, family-friendly, improv competition show for 5-15 year-olds and their grownups. The Gallery Players, 199 14th St., Brooklyn. 12 p.m. $17.85 online; $15 at the door.

Pig Town Party: Story Time and Costume Party with author Lian Cho: Join Greenlight’s new monthly Story Time on Sunday afternoons, geared toward kids ages 3 through 8! For January’s special Story Time, they’re celebrating author and illustrator Lian Cho’s newest picture book, Pig Town Party! Greenlight Book Store, 632 Flatbush Ave., Brooklyn. 1 p.m. Free.
