Shareholders in the Penn South co-op in Chelsea last week elected five members, including four incumbents and one new member, to the co-op board of directors.
The five elected board members ran on the Assembly of Concerned Co-operators slate that dominates the 15-member co-op board.
The reelected incumbents are Marc Boddewyn, a landscape architect with the Hudson River Park Trust and a Penn South resident for 15 years, with 1,097 votes; Morris Benjamin, a resident of Penn South for 20 years and longtime board member, with 1,065 votes; Irma Lobel, a longtime resident and former senior vice president of the board, with 1,052 votes, and Jeanne F. Brennan, elected to her second term on the board, with 1,033 votes.
Robert Sikorsky, a Penn South resident since 1995, was elected to his first term on the board, with 1,018 votes.
Not elected were Vera Feingold, a resident since the co-op was founded 42 years ago running on the Voices of Penn South slate, with 588 votes; Jim Graniela, also a 42-year resident and a Voices candidate, with 584 votes and Gus (Bob) Larson, a resident for 17 years who ran as an independent, with 485 votes.
A total of 1,607 valid votes, of which 1,115 were on voting machines and 492 were on proxy ballots, were cast in the Oct. 26 election at the High School of Fashion Industries. In addition, four challenged ballots did not affect the outcome and 14 proxies were voided because the shareholders voted in person by machine. There are 2,820 shareholder apartments in the 10-building Chelsea complex between Eighth and Ninth Aves. from 24th to 29th Sts.
