L train shutdown pros and cons

  • The L train won't run at all in Manhattan, but it will run in Brooklyn before the Williamsburg neighborhood. That means more room for Brooklynites to manspread!

  • The East River ferries are a great alternate way to commute from the Brooklyn waterfront to Manhattan. The price is still higher than a subway ride, but Mayor Bill de Blasio is trying to change that by introducing more routes. More ferry service is also being discussed for when the L is shut down.

The L train, which carries 400,000 weekday riders between Manhattan and Brooklyn, will shut down between the boroughs for 18 months beginning in 2019 while the MTA repairs damage caused by superstorm Sandy, officials announced.

So what the heck will happen to all those people who ride the train every day? Well, it won’t be pretty, but there are, of course, pros and cons …
